第9回 茨城メロンメロンラン水戸偕楽園
The 9th Ibaraki Melon Melon Run Mito Kairakuen is a running event built around one of Ibaraki Prefecture's best-known local products: melon. The event highlights Ibaraki as Japan's leading melon-producing region and invites runners to enjoy generous servings of locally associated melon during the race experience, with Quincy melon and other orange-fleshed varieties noted in the event information. The setting is also a major part of the appeal. The course uses Kairakuen Park, one of Japan's three celebrated gardens, together with the area around Senba Park and Lake Senba in Mito City. Runners can experience a green urban park landscape, the atmosphere of a famous garden area, and lakeside scenery where families of waterbirds may be seen along the shore. Rather than presenting itself as a strictly competitive race, the event is framed as a regional, food-focused running day that combines movement, scenery, and Ibaraki's melon culture. Participants receive a T-shirt as a participation item, and the event information notes that timing is not provided, reinforcing its relaxed, experience-oriented character.
