Tsuruoka Three-Day Walk is a city walking event held in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, combining the local “Let’s Walk Together! Satoyama Walk” program with the International Nordic Walk in Tsuruoka. The event moves through several distinctive areas of the city, including Haguro, Oyama, and Yunohama, and is designed for participants who can follow the event rules, traffic rules, and walking etiquette. Its appeal lies in experiencing Tsuruoka on foot through landscapes that connect nature, mountain faith, local communities, hot-spring culture, and the Sea of Japan coast. In the Haguro area, the route features the historic shukubo lodging district, Zuishinmon Gate, the National Treasure five-storied pagoda of Mount Haguro, stone steps, the Dewa Sanzan Shrine Sanjin Gosaiden, old pilgrimage approaches, temples, bridges, and rural scenery. In Oyama, participants encounter the Kamike and Shimoike ponds, lakeside roads, Takadateyama, shrines, Zenpoji Temple, streetscapes associated with sake brewing, and other landmarks around the former castle-town and wetland area. In Yunohama, the event highlights the beach, hot-spring town, cycling road, and coastal surroundings, with Nordic walking presented as part of the program. The overall character is relaxed and community-oriented, emphasizing regional discovery, outdoor movement, and the varied scenery of Tsuruoka rather than competition.
